Life can be tough.  Sometimes it's the unexpected things that turn your world upside down, and sometimes its the slow, gradual grind of daily life that gets to you. Sometimes, there doesn't seem to be a reason why things become so difficult and sometimes you know exactly what it is that's causing you difficulty.  Whether its the sudden shocks or the long-term struggles, they can - despite your best efforts to cope - undermine your metal health and destroy your emotional wellbeing.

Many times, we just hope that the problems we are facing will go away by themselves. We many busy ourselves with work and family, throw ourselves into activities or, conversely, withdraw into ourselves, batten down our emotional hatches and hope the inner storms will pass us by.

And, occasionally, they do.  But often they don't - and the problems we have swept under the rug resurface time and time again, either in similar ways as before, or in new and equally unpleasant ones.

When we find ourselves dealing with the same distressing things over and over (whether in real life situations or in flashbacks) - or realise we are unable to let go of the things (and sometimes people) that cause us pain -  its a sign that we've not allowed ourselves the time or space for healing.  And until we allow ourselves this time and space, its almost certain that our problems will persist.

And that's where counselling comes in ... ... ...
